1: ‘At the heart of my Government’s legislative programme is a commitment to reform
and rebalance the criminal justice system to deliver justice for all and to safeguard the
interests of victims, witnesses and communities’ (Queen’s Speech, 2002)
2: ‘We will put victims and witnesses at the heart of the criminal justice system and
ensure they see justice done more often and more quickly. We will support and inform them, and empower
both victims and witnesses to give their best evidence in the most secure environment possible’ (Home Office, 2002).
3: ‘My Government will put victims at the heart of the criminal justice system’ (Queen’s
Speech, (2006)
4: ‘ By 2011 we will improve victim satisfaction with the Police and victim and witness satisfaction with
the Criminal Justice System’ (Home Office, 2008) .
For too long now the criminal justice system across the whole of the UK has put the rights of perpetrators of crime before that of victims. This has to change and I fully support voice 4 victims.
